And since we already took a look at Yasuo and ranked his skins, it’s time for Yone to receive the same treatment. Sure, he doesn’t have nearly as many. But it’s still worth working out what the best one is.
4. Battle Academia Yone
Released: March 18th, 2021 Price: 1350 RP I’m ranking this skin last as it doesn’t really bring anything new to the table. The whole point of Battle Academia skins is to go full anime. But Yone is already anime as all hell. So you’re basically getting a skin just so that you could look a bit younger and less demonic. I also can’t fully get behind the design for his main blade, as it’s just a bit too bulky. Usually, that wouldn’t throw me off but here it just looks silly. But that’s not to say that this skin is terrible. Besides the clunky sword, the character model is fairly decent. I even like his new hairstyle quite a bit. The Q animation is rather slick, with a nice sound effect, and the thunder effect on your W makes it feel a lot more impactful. As far as the new backing animation is concerned, it’s the standard Battle Academia formula – dummy practice. It’s pretty dynamic though, so I won’t hold that against it. The skin also comes with some really good chromas (with Ruby being my absolute favorite) and the splash art is rather decent. Overall, Battle Academia Yone is an adequately made skin. However, it doesn’t have much of a “wow” factor as it’s thematically very similar to the original design. But hey, if you really want that little bump up in anime aesthetic, go plus ultra.
3. Ocean Song Yone
Released: June 9th, 2022 Price: 1350 RP Unlike the previous pick, this skin has quite the selling point. After all, it’s the only goofy Yone skin currently in existence. With a fedora on your head, some sick shades, and your trusty flip-flops, you’re ready to party. And I mean that quite literally, as your new backing animation has you putting on a real show. I mean, it makes sense – Yasuo is already a world-class DJ with KD/A, so of course, Yone would give it a try as well. As far as the abilities are concerned, it’s all pretty decent. Expectedly, your Q is mostly focused around water particles and lots of splashing. But your W does get a bit more creative by adding a patch of sand across the hitbox. And honestly, it makes the ability a lot more fun. Your E and R aren’t as creative, but I’ll say that they come with some amazing sound effects. And since these are your big-ticket attacks, those sound effects go a long way. Overall, the skin is just goofy. There’s no doubt that it comes with some good animations and particles, but it’s hard to take it seriously. Especially since you still have Yone’s original edgy voice lines on top of it!
2. Dawnbringer Yone
Released: September 23rd, 2021 Price: 1820 RP This skin goes in the opposite direction of the last pick, as it cranks up both the coolness and the edginess factors to an eleven. You look like a straight-up god, with half of your body being angelic and the other demonic. Thematically this makes a lot of sense for Yone – and it looks cool as hell. This divide is best represented in your new E, where the angelic side literally parts from the demonic body and starts whaling on people. And I think we can all agree that it looks badass. Since this is a legendary skin, you also get a few new bells and whistles. First off, a new VO. Even though I was okay with the original, this one also slaps quite a bit. Secondly, a Naruto homeguard run – which is just epic. Thirdly, a new death and respawn animation. And lastly, a whole slew of added animations while you’re attacking or just walking around. All of this being said, I can’t say that the skin is perfect. The new Q and E (although definitely nice) aren’t a big enough improvement upon the original to warrant the price. Your silhouette is also a bit odd (since your top half is way busier than usual). And the base skin already runs smooth as butter – so you don’t even get the usual “legendary skin = VGU” feeling. Overall, the skin is pretty epic. It even comes with some really well-made chromas. But it’s missing that little oomph that would make it worth the legendary price-tag.
1. Spirit Blossom Yone
Released: August 6th, 2020 Price: 1350 RP Even though this was the first Yone skin to have ever come out, it’s still the best. That’s because it keeps it simple and interesting. First off, it’s like a prequel to the Yone we know today – so you get those lore points. Secondly, the thematic is just on point. You get to keep all of that samurai swagger while also not being an edgelord anymore – that’s the dream! The flower petal particles that surround most of your abilities make you feel so elegant. And the faded pink that comes up for your shield and your W is just mesmerizing. And don’t even get me started on your new E! The sound effect alone makes this skin worth it – as the little choir is equal part creepy and epic. And the foggy tether effect completes the aesthetic. Not to mention that this skin also comes with a really decent selection of chromas (with the Tanzanite being my favorite of the bunch). Overall, the skin simply does everything that a good Yone skin should do. It represents a reimagining while still keeping all of the good parts of the original design. Ten out of ten, would int again. Note: this content was created under Riot Games’ “Legal Jibber Jabber” policy using assets owned by Riot Games. Riot Games does not endorse or sponsor this project.
